The author tries to battle life’s meaninglessness, by dreaming up a plan to destroy nature and to rewrite history, only to realise that nature and history will prevail in the end. He then tries to see meaning in the battle itself, in the beauty and fireworks of the confrontation, but to no avail. If you can’t destroy the world with the one you love, the author seems to say, why destroy the world at all?
